The Spirits of the Tree Sculpture Appeal
Saying Goodbye to an Old Friend
For generations and over many seasons, our beloved Sequoia tree has graced the gardens and skyline at New Lands. Many have developed a special connection with it.
Unfortunately, we have had to say goodbye as it has reached the end of its earthly life.
Although this is a moment of sadness, it is also an opportunity to honour and celebrate all that she has given us. To do this, we want to create a meaningful, parting gift—one that reflects the deep connection so many of us have felt over the years. We have, therefore, decided to create a sculpture from the trunk of the tree.
After a month of voting on an appropriate theme for the sculpture by our members and friends, a winning theme has now been chosen: THE SPIRITS OF THE TREE. A huge thank you to everyone who voted!
Turning the Sequoia Trunk into a Sculpture
The idea is to work with an artist to carve the trunk into a sculpture — something simple and respectful that reflects the tree’s spirit and the sense of peace it brought.
We’re now beginning to raise funds to help make this possible. This will go towards the artist’s time and materials, and the care of the sculpture once it’s finished. We’re also in the process of finding the right artist for the work.
If you feel moved to support this project, you’re welcome to make a donation — any amount is appreciated.
Thank you for being part of this. We’ll keep you updated as things unfold.
